OMG, how did horses survive all those generations without FHotD?

So I am a little late but my computer is no longer acting like a giant turd with a power cord. Which means I can now comment on the whole Genesis Award/HSUS that has Cathy singing,"We aren't worthy!" Obviously she would fit right in with the PETA crowd with her anti carriage and vegan ways.(Not that I have anything against vegans, but don't care to have their views pushed on me). Hell, I'm an old gal that still enjoys that big juicy steak!

Where to start. Oh yes, the glorious comment section where Cathy is insulting and putting up a fight with anyone who doesn't agree with her. I have to say though, I've never seen Cathy comment so much. Here we go.

My personal belief - just mine - is that if you can't kill it and butcher it, if that would make you uncomfortable, then it's time you reassessed why you are eating it.

There are several people, including myself that raise our own meat and do not butcher it ourselves. My family has raised our own meat for several generations. My mum would take our cows to butcher when I was younger, would come home with the rolls of meat and tell us all that she "exchanged" the cow at the butcher just to make us feel more comfortable about not eating Fluffy, or whatever name we chose to give the cow. Just because you're not comfortable watching the actual butchering does not mean eating meat is wrong or raising your own animals for butcher is wrong.

Why can't the carriage rides go on at a beautiful farm somewhere more appropriate, like the Hamptons? You could do a beautiful driving trail with appropriate non-asphalt footing.

Cathy, are you also a person that complains about horses being in parades? "But the poor, poor horses could freak out when the fire engine turns on it's siren!"**crosses arms and pouts**,"It's just so unjust to imagine that people back in the 1800s and early 1900s traveled this way all the time. Their poor wittle feet. Lets cuddle him, put him in a dress and call him Dave!" Cathy, bet you just cringed when you read Black Beauty and learned that they pulled buggies on brick?

I don't think that is true. It may be a belief of certain HSUS employees but it is not the opinion of HSUS employees, donors, and volunteers as a whole. I have worked with them for a long time now and spent plenty of time talking to these people.

Birds of a feather flock together. That is one crazy @$$ feather though.

Michaleen - Well, given that you are supporting horses in NYC, not exactly a cheap place to live, I would assume that business could be conducted elsewhere. In fact, if you'd stop being so defensive and try to work with the people who want these horses to have a better life, you might find that someone is willing to donate a place for them to live or partner with you in your business to move it to a more appropriate place.

Cathy, believe it or not, but most horses that are willing, sound, and sane enjoy to work. I have a pasture full of them that would gladly saddle themselves if they could. Instead they choose to greet me at the gate and wait for me to come get them and tack them up. NYC carriage horses are well taken care of. Much like the Anhauser-Busch Clyde's. They are groomed daily, put up in warm stalls, blanketed when cold, given some of the best grain and hay, and shod on time. Can people ever win with you Cathy? You complain when people don't feed, groom, or trim their horses and then you complain when they do.

Where do you draw the line, if you allow Madeleine Pickens to have 30,000 horses with no hoof care?

Madeleine Pickens is planning on letting these horses live as naturally as possible with little human interference as they were born and most have lived doing so. This isn't a question of taking some prissy jumper/dressage horse out of a show barn and throwing him out on a million acres. She is taking wild(feral) horses and placing them on land where they can live protected without much government interference. In the wild, these horses naturally wear down their own hooves. Where do you think the term Mustang Roll came from? This is a lady that has a plan, seems to have the money, and wants these horses to remain in their natural environment with plans only to throw hay and feed when times call for it and to doctor the horses that need to be vetted. Once again, no one can win with Cathy. She's against the slaughter of these animals and against the stalling of these animals, yet when someone comes along and wants to bring aid to the situation, she's against that too. Makes you wonder, if ole Cathy is just jealous that she's not able to do this much?

I kind of thought that Madeline Pickens comment was funny too. Umm, is she mad at the BLM now too since you KNOW they don't round up all THEIR (many, many more) horses and do hoof care. Jeez.

I love you, Wench. You just keep hitting that nail on the head! And I think you're right, heck I was already thinking of jealousy issues when I started reading on the mustang part of your post and then you said what I was thinking.

Also, love how people are starting to seem to come around in the comments on the hsus post fugs made. Gonna be fun to see how many posts she's gonna make now to divert attention from it.

I have been a long time Fugly reader. While I tend to agree with her for the most part and read her posts for fun she really crossed the line on the HSUS post. I was very dissapointed and her reaction to the carriage horses was crazy! Hell to get fed, groomed, tons of attention from nice people, exercise, and a warm place to sleep.....most horses would KILL for that gig!

I think Fugly's smug tongue is tied. Or she choked on her Boca burger, perhaps? Does she even realize that all those bo-toxed HSUS/PETA celebs that she is in love with helped to kill botulism bacteria in order to look plastic and pretty? yep, the big pharm companies squeeze those little bacterium buggers to death, and collect their toxin, all in the name of fake beauty.

Someone needs take her down to the Steens Mtn herd of mustangs in SE Oregon. There must be a farrier and his or her forge set up on every corner of the BLM land now, right?

Man Wench, is this the best you can do?? Cathy has been posting for days and days while you have been unable to and this is the "juiciest" stuff you can come up with?? Pretty lame if you ask me.

Once again, you seem like someone who would say the Earth was flat if Cathy said it was round just to disagree.

But I guess you can construe anything any way you want if you take it out of context, huh?

The carriage horse part is particularly annoying to me because I used to drive carriages in a small town. All the horses were very well taken care of...they had to be. Theres no room for abuse in that situation because you NEED your horses for your business, so they NEED to be taken care of properly.

Also you get people who don't know a thing about horses and insist that the carriage horses are somehow mistreated in some way when they're actually very comfortable with what they're doing.

Cathy seems to be one of those people.

HOLY COW!! Cathy got torn right up over there..........and by some of her most avid defenders. Man, she really hit some nerves on that subject. That is too damn funny. She's can't even defend herself well, lost for words I imagine. She made a complete ass of herself on this one, lol.

I think what got me was relocating the carriage trade to the Hamptons.
Whaaaaat?

How many people have seen a movie that included footage of carriage horses in Cenral Park?
How many tourists make that part of their trip?
The carriage operators are part of history.
Something that meant something.

The Hamptons are seasonal.
The pretentious facade of being in the know and hanging with the clique?
Well it strikes me as just that.
She is definitely drinking the juice on this one.
And apparently too starstruck to realize she is being used.

Someone over there posted,
"I already know what you are. I just had not determined your price".
I couldn't agree more...

Feel better soon Wench. We have missed you.

I agree about the carriage horses. And AB clydes. They all seem to be in great shape to me. If you think about it, it does come down to no one owning any animals for some of these people. Because who is to say what is a good enough life for any of them?

As far as the mustangs, we all know they don't get hoof care in the wild. What is she even talking about?

Dena said...

I misquoted in reference to fugs and the interest HSUS has shown in her.

Here is the correction.

"We know what you are, we just had to determine price".

My bad. Someone else suggested that perhaps all the disillusioned were confused by what they had been reading all these years and were just now seeing the real Cathy and her agenda. Not starstruck just showing her true colors.
Hmmmm...That is food for thought.

BrownEyed Cowgirl said...

Over and over you hear people say that they "used" to read fugly because they learned something but now it's changed. I think now everyone can clearly define what has changed...Cathy went from concerned, outraged citizen to full, blown animal rights activist.

It's one thing to pick on and "out" Krazy Kolor breeders, bad rescues and make prejudiced statements against a type or breed of horse, but when the line is crossed and it becomes about whether people should or should not eat meat and whether they should or should not have the right to keep animals...I think a lot less people are going to be inclined to buy into the "fugly concept". At least I hope like hell, that is the case.

Unfortunately, it seems when people cross that line, it is almost impossible for them to change their mind. Cathy has never been real big on opening her mind or changing her opinion, except it seems in the case of HSUS.

Since she seems so impressed with the celebrity status awarded her by loyal fugly followers, the only way to change her status is for people to stop commenting on fugly. After all, it is the commentors who have given her, her status, how about we take it away?

If you disagree with her stance on HSUS...stop commenting on her posts and see what happens. If her comments go from over a hundred a day to a dozen or so, I guess she will have her answer on who believes the HSUS is an organization that is there for the benefit of the animals.

Quite frankly, I'm surprised anyone hadn't already figured out her agenda. The posts about the breeder asking for free help on Craigslist and the post about the TB sales ad were a pretty clear indication to me the bent of fugly's mind. It's not about "outing" attrocities anymore, it's about picking on people for simply not doing things exactly the way she and her new found theories think they should be done.

Come on...worrying about the mustang feet? No one with any common sense is going to focus on that, when they still haven't clearly figured out what they are going to do with all those damn horses anyway!

Viatecio said...

I thought the Fugly blog was good when it was originally talking about horrific conformation, the "know your breed" stuff and whatnot. I was a little bit put off when it turned into "Out the BNT and Fake Re$cue$". I mean, it was probably with good intentions, like everything else...but I just can't swallow what the blog has become. Who is she to say that something is "wrong"? Who dares tell anyone what tools and methods they can or can't use (provided they are not abusive, which in itself is an emotionally loaded word)? I mean, when I go into professional dog training, I expect to be lambasted because of the tools I use, but who's to say that my dogs aren't happy, respectful, healthy and obedient?

Oh and the whole hoof care for 30,000 mustangs or whatever the number is...i wonder where the farriers were back when the Chincoteague ponies lived completely wild? No wonder they learned to swim regularly, their poor tootsies were overgrown from all that wild living! :P

They asked me who would take care of them if they were free?
I said they would have to take care of themselves.

I am not sure. As I may have trained them so well that they now speak as I do.
Becuz I am also a speshul expert trainer.
But, I believe the unanimous response was, "F*$# THAT"!

All of those generations of horses didn't survive without Her. To say they survived would imply that they existed. How can anything exist without directive from Cathy, the Equinal Messiah?

Genesis 1:3-5 Then Cathy said, "Let there be horses"; and there were horses. And Cathy saw that the horses were good; and Cathy separated the well conformed from the malconformed. Cathy called the well conformed Breeders, and the mal-conformed She called Fugly.

BrownEyed Cowgirl said...

Well, apparently she is a tad miffed at everyone's opinion of her newly beloved HSUS.

Well, there is just nothing like being condescended to by the great and almight Fugs. Obviously NO ONE who posted relavent information about the HSUS on her Awards post knows what they are talking about. How like Cathy to talk down to her loyal readers. The people who read and comment are "painfully stupid" and now she is making it abundantly clear how little she thinks of their opinion.

I always get a giggle when she does a post and within just a few comments the topic is completely forgotten and people are off and arguing about something that has absolutely NOTHING to do with her post.

this one was a particular corker! the vegetarian thing annoyed me. im a vegeterian but no one has the right to say who should be eating meat and who should be doin the killing! its not wrong. just matter of personal choice.

the carriage horses was also rediculas. and what was more pathetic is that she litterally wrote a whole paragraph just naming famous people (who by the way i have never heard of) talk about been star struck and just agreeing with people cause you wanna be them!! we get the pictue ducky.... there ws famous people there!!

and dont even get me started on the mustangs! for an anti slaughter person that should be nothing but great news.. but nope! not to cathy. your spot on when you say there is no pleasing her. you just cat win!

maybe she sould spend more time getting out there and helping the causes she feels so strongly about and less time sat infront of her computer picking on people that are doing nothing wrong e.g. the young girl riding the thourgh bred stallion!

she is nothing but a bitter, hypicritical , jelous woman.

Ok I have to comment on carriage horses. It really upsets me when people bxtch and moan about those poor carriage horses.

Rome, Italy. Went there in 2008. I went and chatted with all the carriage drivers. every single one. We'd recognize horses we met in different areas of the city. Those horses are like the driver's KIDS. You can't pet them without permission. Not because they're worried you'll get hurt oh no, they're only concerned for their horses. One guys horse would turn his head and kiss his driver with ears perked and would only be rewarded with pats and kind words. It wasn't a treat thing. Yeah the horse is so abused eh? It performs tricks out of love not for food. Miserable creature I guess. You're not allowed to bother the horses when they are on break. The horses get water before the drivers did.

While sight seeing we stumbled across the stables. Works of art on the barn sides and complelety surrounded by trees for shade.

The horses were all extremely well shod, well groomed, shiny, bright eyed and constantly licking their lips and they were happy to work.

They were working on cobblestone and most of them were Italian Trotters, one was an Orlv Trotter and the other an Arab. All were extremely happy and content. Oh and not a single one took a sore step either.

why censor if you do not agree with someone? that paints an untrue picture doesnt it?

as to the carriage horses, I have seen some really nice, well cared for carriage horses, and I have seen some horribly cared for carriage horses...stop it all together, no, absolutely not... regulate it a little more so that the bad ones are put out of business and the good ones get to stay.. yes please.

as to the mustangs...

I do not know very much about the mustang situation, but if she has the land to keep them in a "natural setting", natural meaning 100's of acres per horse so that they can wear their own hoofs down naturally, and can move around enough to avoid grazing highly parasite infected areas, and are not piled on top of each other so that if one gets sick, it rampantly spreads through all the herds, fine. Let them be natural, I have no problem with that.

BUT if she is keeping them on smaller areas, which I believe she may be, atleast in the winter when she is feeding hay? then I think she needs to be providing care as if they were domestic horses.

A lot of the care domestic horses require is a result of their lifestyles, which are not "all natural" no matter who makes your lunge whip. IF a horse doesnt have to travel miles each day to find grazing, water, etc they usually do not wear their hoofs down fast enough. Feral horses do typically have some parasites, but the reason they are able to survive without the dewormers we give domestic horses is because they have a huge range, thus avoid grazing the same area over and over and picking up a huge parasite load.

sooo yes.. there are two sides to every story...

see, I have this philosophy that that it takes all kinds in life to create a workable system... you take the two extreme views, and then you compromise and meet in the middle to make a workable solutation.

Cathy can be a little extreme at times, yep definately, but she draws attention to issues that need attention. I mean think about it.. one extreme says dont eat animals ever! they are magical mystical friends. Then the other extreme says killum and eat um, they have no feelings, who cares, im MAN top of the almighty food chain... Neither view is probably the way things SHOULD be... but, somewhere in the middle.. ya know.. treat animals headed for slaughter decently, provide them a decent life being raised?

But see thats the thing, and its like that with everything.. you cannot have one side in control of any issue, you need need the other side to check up on it and keep things balanced towards the middle.. the middle in where most peoples opinions fall, unfortanatly, the middle usually isnt passionate or loud, the middle is usually complacent. Then you have peoples tendency to go to extremes, especially when faced with oposition... so we need the balance of both..

so get over yourselves and Cathy.. Why not, independent from Cathy (at least most of the time) , find issues that YOU feel need to be addressed, and address them?

I would love for someone to set up a pro-slaughter, but also pro horse welfare blog or website similiar to FHOTD.

I knew an older maiden mare, 14 I think, she had one normal looking foal, except it was mentally insane. It had been a twin. The placenta, when she was born, told the sad tale. The filly had to be put down as a two year old. She would try to kill anything that moved. ANYthing.
Horses that twin, should not breed again. OOOppps. Oh, is that one of my opinions, Again?
Sorry.
Carry on, make many, many more, you wonderful fugly BYB's you.
Make sure your job is secure. Oh right, it is.

I sure hope all foals slip to the ground safe and sound and sane, this spring. And that they find a forever home, with someone qualified to keep them. I hope the good breeder is paid an honest price for his quality.
I'm not holding my breath.

I keep mentioning Madeline P in my blog. I think she's pretty busy, being rich and all. STILL haven't heard from her.
The Almighty-notatall Ditz out.

golightly, you make absolutely no sense to me. That is ok. You are completely welcome to post your ramblings and I am glad people enjoy them.

Um, Anon? (The one trying to pick on GL) Your point might be what..?
I personally love GL's writing style, but that is beside the point.
Bill Dorrance is also a difficult read, but that doesn't mean that his experience is not worth making an actual effort to understand. I've noticed that people who 'speak horse' frequently don't speak 'human' as clearly.
If you can't figure out how to understand another human how will you ever learn to speak horse well?

"The perfect is the enemy of the good." In other words, if you want to fix a problem and demand perfection, you'll never get even a good solution (or any, for that matter).

Fugly is a good example - no matter what anyone does, unless it falls in line with her opinion of how things should be, it's not good enough and should be shot down in flames.

Aha! My sis in law is exactly the same way and only stays close to those indiviuals who either always agree with her, or continually kiss her ass.

I'm not in that club and neither am I a Fugly Fan any longer.
THAT would explain my animosity toward them both!

Oh and yes, Wench, you need a neti pot. Works wonders!!

I don't think anon is exactly picking on GoLightly. GL does have a rather interesting style of writing. I for one would very much enjoy knowing GL in real life, as I see some interesting personality coming from her.

I remember that, kestrel! That was a WTF point for me, too. Very off with theirs head kinda thing.. Murder and slavery. My kinda town!
I believe I threw a snowball at you.
Sorry, I can't now. No snow.

Darcy, who said that? It's so true.

I'm am so sorry Wenchster, GoLightly, and Dena.
You do not post links so that those who read may more easily harass.
You do not copy hyperbole BULLSH*T and present it as absolute FACT.
You do not provide addresses, phone numbers, and emails.
All in the interest of making it so much easier for people to continue your mission for you in order to gain your approval.
And you do not take random pictures off the internet and abuse entire white trash families for fun.
None of you call subjects fat asses and invite/incite your readers to be abusive anonymously.
Except maybe to Cathy.
But isn't one of the first rules of survival if you can't take it don't dish it out?
I'm so sorry Ladies but you just don't create the same atmosphere.
The whole witty bit?
Bwahahahah.
Cathy is many things. Never found witty to be one of those things.
I think that might be the problem.
You are all too much the Lady to fight as dirty as she does.
Dena I give you credit for grace under fire.
I do not know anyone who could have stood tall through all of that.
But when you go on a tear I think you can more than give as good as you get.
Poor Cathy.
That is another thing. Why is it everyone can get along together.
And Cathy gets along with no one?
Rhetoric question.
And all of her staunch defenders? Too lazy to think for themselves.
And probably half afraid of what she might do to them if she gets mad.

Dena said...

Witty? What the hell does witty have to do with slaughter issues?

We should now challenge ourselves to write about slaughter issues in a witty fashion?

Witty and entertaining? Because it is witty and entertaining to be abusive on the internet?
Anonymously?

I always thought that was the definition of cowardly bullying.

Yes, I will strive to make threads and posts on suffering witty and entertaining based on this constructive criticism.

Well, if Cathy wasnt entertaining to read, she wouldn't have so many readers, and she wouldnt have a blog that is about HATING her.. you have to be somewhat notorious or famous for that... and to be notorious or famous you have to be entertaining..

I do not completely agree with Cathy all the time, and I know a lot of her "followers" that dont, and say so...

OK... I'll admit that I know one the actresses on the list. I adore her in Criminal Minds as Garcia.

Does Fugly get paid just when you first go to the page? I'm just curious....

Dena said...

This blog is not about hating Cathy.
It is about calling her out on her hypocrisy.
Did you read the intro?
I am so tired of the victimization crap.
I had to get over it. Can the rest of you?

And she has readers no one disputes that.
Who cares?

I can dissect and oppose what she presents if I choose.
Just as anyone else can choose to defend the indefensible if they so choose.

Ignorance abounds and tends to run unchecked in many venues.

I dont have a problem with this blog existing, not at all. I disagree with it often, and I think the writer takes a tiny molehill of a potential inconsistancy and tries to turn it into a mountain of a lie and to me, that discredits the content on the blog.. but, by all means, blog away :)

Dena said...

Yes, a tiny molehill of inconsistency.

Do as I say and not as I do.
This woman has been criticizing and critiquing everything under the sun.

Riding
Breeding
Owning stallions
Faux Rescues
Rescues that do not provide proper documentation
Horses conformation
Training technoques
Hard Hats for children
Monitoring rescues in placement

That is just a tad more than tiny.
And just the tip of the iceberg.

I prefer to take my advice and direction from someone who actually knows what they are talking about.

After seeing her ride would you take lessons from her?
Would you send her a horse to train?
Would you give her your money?

Do you do any of these things to even be able to ascertain how incredibly incompetent she is on the very things she spends so much time trying to educate others about?

She does what is known as talking the talk.
But she has yet to prove able to walk the walk.

And that is not hating her. It is simple truth as presented by the subject herself.

GoLightly and Wenchster,

A friend of mine uses her childhood teapot as her sinus cleanser. A neti-isn't that what they call it?

- warm salt water, eh GoLightly?

In one nostril and out the other? Trying to ask oh-so-delicately here, so forgive me, dear readers, if this is grossing you out.

Feel better, Wenchster!

'night, all~

Those things work great! I use it all the time as I have allergies and seem to always have sinus problems...starting doing that and I have been feeling super great =)

Fugs is just so damn cute. I want to thank everyone who nominated me for the bloggers choice awards.
Before she had even been nominated.
And the porno pics? How precious.
What a PIG!

Nor-Cal rescue if they are paying according to fugs fee schedule are paying $650-$800 per month to advertize on FHotD.
Now there is another rescue advertizing in the $400-$500 spot.
Donation dollars I am sure.
She says her site has over 61% of readers who have incomes of over $60,000 per annum.
And a whole bunch who have no children so more money to spend on horses.

Dena said, "After seeing her ride would you take lessons from her?
Would you send her a horse to train?".

She made some comment the other day about having lesson kids, as if she has taught kids to ride. I find it very hard to believe ANYone would give her money to train a person OR a horse after seeing her ride!!

And I don't subscribe to the old adage, "Those who can, do. Those who can't, teach.". In my mind you have to be able to perform the actions correctly that you are asking of your students. I know other actual trainers feel this way as well...

Sorry...this is SO off topic.

Oh and the whole donation dollars to advertise on Fugly? I can no longer associate myself with her blog (or yours, so thanks for keeping the anonymous comments!) for PROFESSIONAL reasons. So I find it hard to believe those rescues can do so and get away with it! I guess their donors think it's "cute" and ya know, "witty and entertaining".

I was going to avoid this. Because it is really rather nasty.

Cathy put your pants back on. Take your nasty pictures down.
And get some help. Any kind of help.

And Sweetheart? You are not the reason men cheat.
You are the reason they become Gay.

*I am in no way making a derogatory remark directed at the Gay community.
In cases like this? I admire their discernment.*

I saw that and was wondering who would send their children to fugly. Those poor kids. This was a subject of one of fugs earlier posts. A bad rider who can't do two point teaching kids. I'm not so sure that they are her lesson kids. She may have left her comment deliberately ambiguous so we would think that she was a riding instructor.

You don't have to be famous to have a blog about you. You just have to be consistently inaccurate.

There are many fug followers that don't always agree with her. However, if they post a contrary opinion on her blog, unless they do so in a group, they will be flamed.

Fugly followers who disagree a come over here to discuss it because they are allowed room to do so. I can agree with Cathy on this blog and not get flamed. But, try to disagree with Cathy on her blog and she'll call the dogs out on you like she did recently with GL.
