Tonight I have the pleasure of sharing something that I found quite humerous. Your first photo will be one of the VLC, the second photo was sent to me by a friend.
And here is the second picture:
Now I know the second horse's hip isn't as full as VLC. But second horse is a 8 year old gelding and he proves that even for an unregistered rescue horse he is cute, buckskin, and of nice size. Yes that's right, second horse is a unregistered rescue that a friend adopted after he was taken to auction and purchased by a kill buyer. Obviously a very loved and well taken care of horse with almost the same conformation of a registered stallion prospect.
Just goes to prove that even lovely, stout, buckskin's aren't safe from auction and kill buyers.

LOL that is very uncanny. For the record I will put my little Chocolate up for comaprison to Bullwinkle any day of the week. He is foundation, about 90% and darn nice. He has better withers and legs for sure, and a nice little head.
Texaspaint- I have to say I was shocked to see Bullwinkles front legs. I'm pretty good at judging young horse's conformation and he looks so calf kneed, straight pastern.
Personally, I like the little buckskin in photo #2 that my friend sent to me. He's got a cleaner neck and throatlatch than VLC and with some conditioning will make an even nicer looking horse.
I would love to see your colt next to bullwinkle. In fact, I love looking at any well bred, nicely trained, healthy horses with good conformation.
You can see Chocolate on my blog.
http://mytwoequinecents.blogspot.com/
The picture is from my phone, but his comformation is there to be seen. His dam and sire are there as well as I hope will be my future stallion. We shall see if he grows into it.
FYI AllmightyMarshmellow let lose on the name callers on the most recent blog. You go girl!
Wow, that's...interesting. One of these days I'll get some good photos of my little buckskin mustang (*gasp* yes, I said mustang) and show how nice HIS conformation is and that not all mustangs are only worthy of the glue factory.
Thanks for this post, it was really amusing and enlightening!
i don't like her stallion, i think he's but ugly......yours is cute, but he's just a big ugly tank
I loved this comparison and found it really interesting when I could compare side by side...freakishly similar. I will give the VLC a better hip but I certainly like this other gelding head, neck shoulder....much more suited for performance...with some proper conditioning and strengthening of his topline, loin and hip he would be tough competition for the VLC. Love the fact that he is a rescue.
to be honest....I see little comparison other than color, which is almost exactly the same, that's a bit scary. Other than that, VLC has a better hip and shoulder. The rescue's front pasterns are a bit worrying and he looks downhill.
While the rescue may be suffering from a horrible photo, even a less flattering shot of the VLC still makes him look like the quality horse he is. That being said, the rescue is adorable and I'd take him in a heartbeat, but in conformation he doesn't compair. I'd also like to note, I really don't like the VLC much (not a fan of the breed) but he is a very nice horse and provided he proves himself, he should keep his balls.
they look almost identical one's just better muscled....seriously how can you not see that?
Come down to Texas where you can see pastures full of ranch geldings that look identical to the VLC. He's nothing special. Visit some breeding farms, go to some large AQHA shows, not the small local ones, pick up the Journal. Watch those WP classes and compare.
His build is not in fashion right now at the open levels and his movement (that you can see in the pics) is not scopey enough for the open levels either.
He might do ok in trail but no one beats down barn door to breed to the Trail Champion that has no other accomplishments.
Why hasn't he gone into the halter ring? We take non-halter bred horses into the halter ring all the time. Good experience for them and it gets them seen.
OK, rant over. This entire blog shouldn't be about bashing the VLC.
Bull crap VLC DOES NOT look better then the other horse!!!!!!!!!! VLC is a average looking horse!! She need to do what she tells everyone ELSE (besides herdelf) GELD THAT god awful horse!!!!!!! I would NEVER breed any of my horses to him even if it was free!!!!!! blaaaaa She need to stop being a HYPOCRITE!!!!!! How can some of you people think it is OK for her to do the things she BASHS other people for???!!!!!!! She is a darm hypocrite!!!!!!!!!
"i don't like her stallion, i think he's but ugly......yours is cute, but he's just a big ugly tank"
It's apparent you don't like VLC, but this statement is based on nothing other than an uninformed opinion. Back your opinion up. Say something more intelligent than "butt ugly". When comparing horses who's conformation is extremely similar, it's ironic that you don't like VLC. If you didn't like one, you wouldn't be too fond of the other (looks and conformation wise) since they are very similar. We all know you guys hate FHOTD, and that's fine. You're acting just like the little followers of FHOTD. If you have an opinion, that's fine - but make sure you back it up with a quality substance instead of an immature comment.
Then why are you here Lindsay??? Because you are a fugly sheep??? hummmmm VLC conformation is AWFUL! If you can't see that then no one should even waste their breath on you. He has bad conformation!!!!!!! NOT stud material!!!!! You can't see that???? LOL Defend her well little sheep!!!
Actually, I do very little reading on FHOTD. I usually bypass her blog for ones like whywomenhatemen.blogspot.com. Up until now, I didn't even know Cathy had a stallion. Goes to show you how much I'm defending her, huh? What I simply don't understand is how you can put two horses up for comparison and manage to bash one but not the other. The post above states "Obviously a very loved and well taken care of horse with almost the same conformation of a registered stallion prospect." If it has almost the same conformation, then how you can bash one but not the other? If they are really so different, American, then point out where and why you think they're so different. I'm not seeing much of a difference, so I find it very hard to assume you guys are bashing VLC because of his conformation and not the fact that Cathy is keeping a stallion.
One is a GELDING like he should BE!!!!
VLC is not. His conformation is awful!!!! He needs to be gelded!!! But Cathy thinks he is stud material. & He is NOT!!!!!
I'm NOT bashing it is called "Telling the TRUTH".
That is my point.
Take the stallion equation out of it then. What makes the conformation of the unregistered gelding at the bottom better than VLC? Saying his conformation is awful is again, ironic, when you're comparing two horses with very similar conformation. Again, saying his conformation is awful is another blank opinion. What makes it so awful? You haven't answered that.
American I think you have very valid points But it is very hard reading or taking the very valid points seriously with the constant and insane use of !!!!!! after every.single.sentence .......anyway you could tone that down so I can read your comments and take them that little more seriously ??
In regards to VLC ( I am a part time fugly reader) I dislike him I dislike his make up and build and would never really have any interest of owning let alone breeding something like him. That being said I am a warmblood girl and so this type of horse is not something I can judge fairly as I do not know enough abotu the breed. But going by my experince and judging by loks alone and what I have read about him he does need to be gelded.
On a side note: As a fugly reader I fully agree that she needs to preach what she writes. I have always read the blog but of late it has taken a turn that has made it hard to read and much much harder to take seriously. One of the main reasons it is hard to read and take seriously are actually the commentors and the snarkiness and rudeness. FWOTD I like you writing style and I think you have valid points BUT either you have to somehow keep your already rabid followers in check or you have to moderate comments
Cheers ! :-)

I just want to mention...if you look closely at the VLC picture, he is standing on a uphill slope. That would put him pretty much where the gelding is if the VLC was pictured on level ground. That slightly downhill look, that is a weak topline from being a pasture puff in 2008. Other than that, the only difference I see is less muscle on the gelding, a nicer head and throatlatch on the gelding (oh and VLC is a full hand taller than my gelding...lol) and obviously a better attitude on the gelding because he's never put his ears back at anything except for these huge horseflies they have where I live.
Yes, that is my gelding. He's never been lame...and up until this summer, I actually rode him all the time working cows, checking fences...riding balls to the wall across the badlands in South Dakota and trail riding. And although he isn't perfect, neither is the VLC and the comparison of both just goes to prove that the VLC would make a excellent gelding but is a extremely poor stallion prospect. I mean, VLC has already gone lame! And it goes to show what KB's are buying, big, pretty colored QH's.
Samantha,
Nobody is bashing VLC...it's just a comparison to show why he is not a stallion prospect, regardless of his color, size or papers, and how he is a excellent candidate for the gelding bus that fulgy's like to talk about.
I thought I was really going to like this blog. I read Cathy's once a week or so and I don't agree with everything she says. I do get a pretty good kick out of some of what she says and she's done a hell of job making people aware of abuse and neglect in the horse industry. It is however, nice to see some other opinions out there. I do hope that every time I come here I'm not going to see more pics of the VLC with childish remarks about how he's not a quality horse. This isn't high school. I can see disagreeing with Cathy on and blogging about those disagreements, but if the whole thing is gonna be about one horse, I think I'll take this blog out of my bookmarks.
Ummmm, I actually like the VLC but only as a trail horse, not as a stallion prospect. I just don't think he has the right stuff for stallion.
He doesn't even look like a stallion to me. He could pass a gelding where he stands.
Now let me remind you this is what I see and always up for help in this area. I'm a ground trainer...not a confo/show specialist :)
VLC has got a nice hip and gaskin. The other buck is weak there, almost 'herring flanked'.
Both have a sickle hock it seems.
VLC seems to have a short neck and a thick throat latch? In this pose I really can't tell much. Now looking at the other buckskin it looks like his neck is a little too long! Oh these shots are too difficult for this novice!
I don't like either buckskins front legs! That right there would make me pass on either for a stallion prospect! That is the #1 thing I am looking for, for my mare. Legs first. (yes I know the second one is a gelding)
Also, I don't like the length of VLC's back. I'm one that prefers the shorter and stronger back.
Lastly, I don't know the pedigree of VLC but that is how I am judging the stallion I get. Sire needs to have shown, grand sire, and hopefully his dam. I want them to be point earners with a name.
If his "great grand sire" has the name and nothing after, he isn't worth squat to me.
But that is what I see. Whether it's right or wrong, that is what I see so I would pass on both..if both were available for stud. Neither are of quality.
Both would make me a great ranch gelding though!
Lindsay the only thing I have a problem with is that he is NOT Stud material!!! & That Cathy is leaving him a stud. When she bashs handfuls of people for the same thing. Why is it OK for her & no one else??!!! That is my whole point!!!!
Louisa- Because I use !!!!!! a lot means I am not serious, then I don't know what to tell you. To me it is my feelings & if that can not be taken serious to bad. Sometimes that is how I get my point/feelings across.
Bucky - you outlined a lot of what I was seeing. I'm still learning though as I'm not a stock horse person!
American - Basically what I had been asking was what bucky outlined about the differences she saw. That's originally what I meant when I didn't understand how you could say one was awful and the other was alright. I agree that neither of them are stud quality.
Lindsay I agree. Neither are sud material! I just don't like how she can talk crap on people then turn around & do the same thing. That is what I don't get. Then for people to come on here saying WE are bashing. They came here to put their two cents in. We are NOT going to fugly's site( well I can only speak for myself) & bashing her. Just very one sided when it comes to her.
& I want to add good debate!! I like those & you never used nasty words either. :) I think that is cool!!!!
( dammit second time writing this ! lol )
Thats what I am talking about American SOOOOOOO much easier to read and totally agree with you.
However I will say this, part of the joy of having blogs and sites like this anf fugly is the debate you have with others on your view points and your opinions. It is just unfortnate that sometimes those debates which should be a learning experince for each and every one of us are marred by immature behaviour and comments and that simply put sucks.
I thinnk it is good that partime/fulltime readers of fugly like myself and reiner come over here and join in at the end of the day thats what is needed to learn from one another and to be able to share our own expertise and advice.
I think if certian pepople on here ( this is not directed at you American ) and commentors learnt how to use their words effectively rather then just wading in fist flying chip on shoulder and attitude to the max then this will be a worthwhile blog for all to read
It's not a good conformation shot, but he certainly looks long backed and butt high (he is standing on a hill). I gelded my stallion because he was longbacked. Yes I breed him once, to a shorter back mare and I am keeping said foal.
I find it very odd that she screams about the gelding bus, but her stallion has a few obvious faults.
Here is one thought though. No horse is perfect, period. Just as no human is perfect physically (there are cases to argue each point). I find nothing wrong with VCL overly much and he is a nice horse.
Would I breed to him? No. I have access to a stallion that is privately owned that is a good case for nearly perfect. He has produced some good show winning babies, but she would skin my friend alive for not showing this stallion. He's barely greenbroke. You know what I have seen not one, but two world championed sired babies next to his, and his where better. Period. I am talking Obsess to Impress out of a Noble Tradition mare. His where better. The other colt's sire's name I can not recall and was an outside mare. When I get the name I will be happy to share.
Who cares if they have shown? Not every one wants a show horse, not everyone wants to buy huge names. I will be happy to direct you to do a search on equine.com to see a cremello son of Shining Spark. Shining Spark must be hiding his head in shame on that.
For the record I read both blogs. Despite the nasty name calling on Fugly I will continue to do so. There are still good things going on still. It just makes me sad to see the ugliness.
Louisa, I get excited & I do love my !!!!!!!!!
I can't help it. LOL But if I use them it doesn't make me un-serious( if that is even a word LOL ). I use them instead of bad words!!!! LOL But I will keep that in mind. I agree we are ALLLLL here to learn. & I will say FWOTD DOES know her horses!!!! I do think she is more educated on them then Cathy. I'm here to chime in on her doing what she bashs other people for. I just don't get it......
I think the main point of showing the geldinig and the VLC is just to show why the VLC should be a gelding and not a stallion. =)
In all honesty this wasn't to bash the VLC- this was to show that even pretty buckskins of the small color and similar conformation aren't safe from auction or getting ready to be loaded up by a kill buyer.
This very cute unregistered buckskin gelding was minutes from being on his way to Mexico. I've never denied VLC from being a pretty horse, he is a cute horse. But I do feel he's to average and ordinary to be a stud prospect. I think however that should Cathy geld him he would make a great gelding incentive fund candidate.
I agree...VLC is just an average buckskin.
Nothing made me sit up and take notice.
He is chunky! He'd blend in nice with my crew no doubt, haha.
But as for show record...
I am breeding my mare next year and she has nice bloodlines. I was searching for something that would make her foal stand out, if something horrible were to happen and I DID have to sell my horses. Sire and grandsire with Show and earnings would help get him sold (if need be). Who knows...if he looks good enough I may be able to take him to halter!
So, if I were going to have a stallion, I'd want to make sure he appealed to the show people...not just the back yard breeders.
Wenchy (mind if I call you Wenchy? BWAHAHA), this comparison made me giggle. And Banner, we need to do a comparison on your horse next, if for no other reason than I think he's purdy and deserves to be included in the buckskin conversation.
Personally...I think I'd prefer Wench over Fugly.
*grin*
wazzoo,
Go back and read my post a little more carefully.
I'm not complaining about people picking the VLC apart. Especially since I did myself.
I would just like this blog to remain objective instead of turning into something similar to the Berry Cool threads on the FHOTD message board.
Samantha,
I only said that becuase your last sentence of this post:
"samantha said...

That is all. I was only trying to reassure you that we were just trying to show why the VLC would be a better gelding than a Stallion. I wasn't trying to come off as attacking you or anything.
What is the Berry Cool threads on the FHOTD messages boards?
Samantha, I thought I was being objective.
I was comparing two horses and willing to learn if what I stated was wrong.
I don't know either of those horses so have no interest in who the 'winner' is.
I'm ready for a new one now!
Ok, Im gonna present my case here as Im coming from the view point of AQHA and showing Top horses in WP, Simply the VLC does not have the conformation to be a top performer in anything AQHA....Ill admit, I wouldn't mind having him as a ranch gelding if he was sound....but again this horse was not thought out properly, as to his dam, his sire, and his unrealistic, lofty performance goals. I just purchased a 2 yr old One Hot Invitation gelding who far exceeds this colt in every way possible. The fact that this comparison was made was just to show that the VLC's conformation is a dime a dozen...average, plain, nothing special...I could find 50 of him on the internet for sale....I think we have picked on this guy lots and just wish that Cathy would realize the truth and wish people would stop with the affirmations that this horse is something special.....
although from my expertise, the gelding on the bottom has a better head, throatlatch, neck and shoulder IMO.....he has overall balance, is lacking the proper conditioning but I think If he was fitted up properly, would be a super nice horse.
Lindsay the reason I said he was butt ugly is because he looks like a million other stallions around, I've never been fond of buckskin and his head seems way too small for is massive body he seems down hill and long backed and perhaps even sickle hocked. I hate the way his shoulder ties into the his neck and wither. Over all he's average and not pretty. where as the number two horse has a very sweet appearance and with a bit of muscle and top line could look probably better!
I also don't think VLC should be a stud, but I've said that before. He's got a long back, long pasterns, and he doesn't have a lot of carry-down in his hip/butt.
But...I'm along with a few others that I hope this blog doesn't turn into a "Let's all bash the VLC" blog.
I know you think he shouldn't be one and that Cathy is being a hypocrite. WE GET IT. I'm not seeing a whole lot of, if ANY, people on here so far who thinks he SHOULD be a stallion. You're preaching to the choir!
Like I said before, I rarely read the Fugly blog anymore, but it's still in my bookmarks and I still do visit occasionally. I spend most of the time on the MB. But I will say this, when I DO read the blog, I never read the comments because most of the time it's full of the "sheep" you guys are referring to. Not that all of them are, but IMO, the few times I was brave enough to read the comments, I was blown away. Which is why I never read them anymore...
But some of you are verging on sounding EXACTLY like those "crazy" commenters on Fugly's blog. Anyway...I'm still going to keep up with this blog, and I'd appreciate not being called a sheep since I've stated multiple times that I hardly ever read the blog and often don't even agree with everything she says...
kthxbai.
By the way...The "you" I used above was a general "you," not a specifically directed at FWOTD.
I hope we can all remain adult, would be my wish that we could be better than Fugly and discuss and debate in a reasonable manner....I want to be better than that and stick to topics not personal bashing...I think the purpose of the post was more of a comparison to an unregistered rescue than a bash session, I don't think Cathy will ever come round to our way of thinking and as of the last posts I read on FUGLY was still getting amazing affirmations that the VLC was an exceptional horse...."rolls eyes" Oh well!
So why not post what we think should be a stallion? Everyone's opinions should be interesting... I'll go first. I looked for one close to me
http://www.equine.com/stallions-at-stud/stallion-ad-713302.aspx?search_id=4371d94c-a639-49d2-bc42-7c2f5c262c46
Haha...that's a tough one, TP. That's where the problems arise.
Everyone's opinions on what is and isn't stallion material are going to vary some. One person will LOVE certain things, while another will HATE those exact same things that the other person loves.
And that is where intelligent conversation comes into play. My little cremello colt is but high right now and it drives me nuts. I remind myself often it is a stage. My deceased APHA stallion was the FUGLIES 2 year old breathing, seriously. He turned into an eye popping stunner. I reminded myself daily what his parents looked like.
For the record I love good examples of any breed! No bias here, if it is a good horse for it's type I love it from Shire to Shetland and all in between.
please ignore any typos and misspelling. I am laid up with a torn up ankle (no cool story just a bad step) and between pain and meds my brain and fingers are arguing.
okay i found a stallion that i'm sure everyone will ADORE (giggle) http://www.ichregistry.com/images/Johnny_Chamapgne-l2.jpg
Hannah that poor beast! Is it my imagination but is his head as long as his neck? I am not even going to touch that poor fellow... Oh please say it is really a gelding...
I just went to that website and looked at the registry stallions. Shivers. Wow. There where a few nice Tenessee Walkers and a really cute arab cross. The rest... yeah...
nope champagne aussie stock horse stallion.....when i saw it i'm like it should not only be a gelding but hidden from view forever!
http://www.onehotinvitation.com/OHI.htm
Scroll to the bottom...better pics of him....God awful pic on the top of the page.....this is my gelding's daddy.
That poor horse, Hannah. Lets just hope he's got a nice personality. I would hate for him to be passing on his conformation and a bad attitude.
fatlip- He's a great example of a nice halter horse that isn't overly done with muscles.
fatlip: he's a lovely stallion.
Fatlip..that's a nice guy!
Hannah: oh my lord...are you kidding? *gag*
TexasPaint: I'd LOVE to see a pic of your colt!
I REALLY honestly want some true input on these guys please:
No confo shot yet. I'm waiting on a CD

My colt is the last picture on the first blog on my site.
http://mytwoequinecents.blogspot.com/
I need to get a really nice shot of him but since I am not selling I have not bothered to. I am getting some good pictures done once they shed by a friend who takes wonderful pictures.
I would like to see a side by side comparison of VLC and Cooke County Etc.
TexasPaint...
man o man I just love Pearl! Did I read that right? She's king (Poco) bred too???
Howdy doody that's nice!
Yanno me...a sucker for a King! haha
Blah, Blah, Blah... that is not the VLC you nit wits.
Although I find this blog somewhat amusing, I think it is interesting that you did not bother to check your facts. The first photo is NOT the VLC but an old retired mare she blogged about. I also find it amusing that a former owner of BOTH the VLC and the mare came on here to point that out and you DELETED her comment along with mine stating that it was not the VLC photographed. I think you have enough valid points to call her out on, why make things up?!?!
I am sure this comment will be deleted as well. Sigh
Actually and I think someone else said it too is that Cathy had labled that picture as the VLC.
deny it all you want, she DID state that the pic shown here was her stallion.
That picture of the buckskin is NOT Big Yellow Caddi. It is Miss Dusty Devil a 23 year old retired mare. SO nice of you to delete my comment because it makes you look bad. Now I am pissed.
Thanks for sharing the info, keep up the good work going.... I really enjoyed exploring your site. good resource...
